As many of you know, I suffered a major stroke in December that eventually led to somre brain surgery. In my on style, I thought it would be interesting to write about that experience for two reasons. I have always thought writing was very therapeautic and maybe I can raise awarness to strokes because some simple, common sense steps can help prevent them most of the time.
Now before I get started I feel I need to say a few things. This blog is not an attempt to make light of a bad situation, so if you have had a stroke or even lost someone to a stroke, I apologize in advance. Somone called me "brave" during my recovery and I laughed. The truly brave people are the ones who were left behind, who had to figure out the financial burden after losing someone to a medical disaster. I wasn't brave, I was just foolish.
Ya see, I do NOT want to be an inspiration, I am simply an example. An example of how NOT to take car of yourself, of how NOT to heed the simple warning signs of diabetes and high blood pressure and how to almost die.
Bottom line, that's what I am ... a bad example that I hope people can learn a lesson from.
I am far from a warrior that stepped in the ring with the grim reaper, battliing him tooth and nail all the way. I am just a dumbass that was too lazy to live a healthy lifestyle. IF I had a choice, I would have still been on the couch, drinking a frozen Mt. Dew and eating peanut butter our of the jar.
Now my wife Melanie, there's the brave one. She was here, facing the tough decisions, organizing family while still getting the bills paid and handling business ... there's the hero of the story.
